How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

Method 1: Measure a ring that already fits

  1. Choose a ring that fits the intended finger comfortably.
  2. Place it on a flat surface and measure the inside diameter (edge to edge, inside the band) in millimeters.
  3. Match your measurement to the Inside Diameter column in the chart above.

Method 2: Measure your finger with string or paper

  1. Wrap a thin strip of paper or non-stretch string around the base of your finger.
  2. Mark the point where the ends meet. It should be snug but able to slide over your knuckle.
  3. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters.
  4. Match the number to the Inside Circumference column in the chart.

Tips for the Most Accurate Fit

  • Measure at the end of the day, when your fingers are at their largest.
  • Avoid measuring when your hands are cold, as fingers shrink in cold weather.
  • Measure 3 to 4 times to confirm your result.
  • If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, choose a size between the two measurements so the ring slides on easily.
  • Wide bands (over 4 mm) fit more snugly, so consider going up a quarter to half size.
  • If you are between two sizes, choose the larger size.

Buying an Engagement Ring as a Surprise?

Borrow a ring your partner wears on their ring finger and measure it using Method 1, or ask a close friend or family member to help. Most women in the US wear between size 5 and 7, with size 6 being the most common. If you are unsure, our team can help you choose.

Ring Size FAQs

What ring sizes do you offer?

We make every ring in US sizes 3 to 10, including quarter sizes such as 6.25, 6.5 and 6.75.

What is the most common ring size for women?

In the US, the average ring size for women is between 6 and 7. Size 6 is the most commonly ordered size for engagement rings.

How do I convert a UK ring size to a US size?

Use the conversion chart above. For example, a UK size N ½ equals a US size 7, and a UK size L ½ equals a US size 6.

Should a ring be tight or loose?

A well-fitted ring slides over your knuckle with slight resistance and does not spin freely or slip off when your hand is relaxed.

Can I resize my ring later?

Many of our rings can be resized. Shipping costs for resizing are paid by the customer. Eternity bands and some intricate designs cannot be easily resized, so we recommend confirming your size before ordering.

Does ring size change over time?

Yes. Fingers can change size with temperature, weight changes, pregnancy and age. It is normal to need a resize after several years.
